Terroir

The vines are planted on slopes which are composed of clay-sand stones or gravels, with poor soils which drain water perfectly and give to the wines of the area their freshness and acidity. Also benefiting from a Mediterranean climate and powerful local Mistral wind, the grapes thrive with warmth and do not suffer from humidity. Thus, the wines are powerful, round and flavoursome. Heat and freshness combined provide Laudun wine great harmony and balance, which can not be found in the rest of the Rhône Valley. |
Vinification
|
Thanks to the climate, Syrah and Grenache reach perfect maturity before harvesting. The grapes are quickly transported to the winery in small cases to avoid the oxidation of the juice. Each variety is vinified separately. Syrah ferments at a temperature below 27°C, then macerates shortly during 2 weeks to bring maximum black fruit flavour. This variety also provides the majority of the tannins. Punching of the cap and releasing enable to extract maximum tannins. Grenache is vinified at higher temperature (28-29°C) to extract power and fat. The maceration lasts long (3 to 4 weeks) to get maximum complexity from the fruit of the Grenache. Ageing takes place during 8 months in 100 year old oak vats to develop fat and length, and concrete vats to reveal the fruit.

Terroir
|
Having long time expertise in the appellation Côtes du Rhône Village Laudun, the Brotte House knows very well the “terroirs” of the area. Thus, the House can select the vineyards best exposed, with sandy clay soils (often covered by gravels or stones) which drain water well and provide freshness. With the addition of a Mediterranean climate and the strong influence of the local Mistral wind, the grapes benefit from heat and do not suffer from humidity. Expert vinification and ageing of the Grenache enable us to make wines that are elegant, round and flavoured. The combination of elegance and freshness give Laudun wines an harmonious balance that is unique to the area. |
Vinification
|
The grapes are harvested by hand at maturity early in the morning. . After a strict cold settling (10-12°C), Grenache is vinified with the aim to extract most of their freshness (very low fermentation temperatures, numerous rackings …). The cuvée is aged on fine lees to bring smoothness and elegance, which are in perfect harmony with the aromatic freshness. Bottling takes place in February of the year following the harvest and the wine is available after settling one month in bottle.

Tasting Notes

« Freshness and Elegance »
Colour – Luminous golden yellow
Nose – Very complex, with a viognier signature. Apricot first dominates and evolves towards green apple and sweet almond. Ripe mango and floral rose hints give it an elegant and exotic character.
Palate – Initial freshness is followed by harmonious smoothness and elegance. Very long, the wine has remarkable fat and aromatic complexity, with long lasting citrus and white peach aromas.
Food Pairing Serve at 9/10 °C. Enjoy as an aperitive, or with fish brochettes, seafood and lime, oven grilled lobster with salted butter, grilled or creamy poultry with cèpes, fresh goat cheese and mixed salad leaves, mango soup with its red fruit coulis.

Terroir
|
Our ancestral winemaking know-how expresses itself in the production of this prestigious Côtes du Rhône made with organic grapes. The vines thrive on sand and clay soils covered by small pebbles around the village of Sainte-Cécile-les-vignes. Organically grown, VIRIDI grapes benefit from a Mediterranean climate tempered by the local Mistral wind. This terroir will give a nice structure. More respectful of the environment, the winegrowing techniques favour the work of the soils, natural fertilizers and a minimum of phytosanitary products excluding all synthetic chemical substances. In Latin, VIRIDI means green (reference to grass). This name honours the organic grapes and the “cuvee” that displays gourmet fruit and smoothness. |
Vinification
|
Grenache is harvested earlier than traditionally grown grapes. Thus it will give plenty of fruit and freshness. Traditional methods. Vinification takes place in closed concrete tanks. Grapes naturally ferment at 26-28°C. Two daily pump overs, release and lees stirring are carried out during the alcoholic fermentation. We use very few sulphites in order to strictly respect the limits of organically grown grapes. After completing the malolactic fermentation the wine is aged in concrete vats for 12 months which develop the roundness.

Probably, the simplest way to truffle-flash-up your everyday life. Have them as is, right from the jar, and they provide a soft feeling with a mellow taste. Alternatively, you can gently fry them up in a pan and add the oil and a few spices and they will release even more truffle goodness.
