【Feature】Château du Tertre
Located on one of the highest and most beautiful gravelly rises in the Margaux appellation, Chateau du tertre was created in the 18th century by an important Irish merchant, Pierre Mitchell, who fell in love with the Bordeaux region and its wines. The founder of the first glassworks in Bordeaux, this refined, innovatives man realised one of his fondest dreams by establishing his own fine wine estate. Other famous families followed in his footsteps, including the Koenigswarters and rich bankers close to Emperor Napoleon III. The quality of the wine was such that it was included among the Margaux great growths in the 1855 classification.
In 1997, Eric Albada Jelgersma acquired the estate. Thanks to major investments, Chateau du Tertre now expresses its intrinsically elegant personality. Today, Dennis, Derk and Valerie Albada Jelgersma continue the family tradition, ensuring the future of this outstanding estate.
