Fenomenal Sauvignon Blanc 2018 & 8 treasure zongzi
This aromatic white wine has notes of tropical fruit and citrus, which compliments the lotus leaf that this savoury zongzi is wrapped in. Its high acidity will help the wine’s notes shine through the rice starch covering the palate after a bite of zongzi.
Val D’Oca MOS Moscato Dolce Spumante & sweet zongzi
My childhood favourite: this brown, sticky rice dumpling is filled with sweetened green bean paste. There was never enough filling for me and I would put honey on top of the rice so the whole dumpling was sweet. These days, I can pair it brilliantly with this bottle. The sweetness of the wine is a perfect substitute for my old condiments. Its herbaceous notes bring out the taste of the bamboo leaf in the rice. The bubbles help cleanse the palate of the rice starch, leaving a refreshed mouth. The effect is a sweet experience that does not take away from the earthy undertone of the zongzi!
